Renaud Lavoie wonders if Tanner Pearson’s career is over

0
0

Without much fanfare, Tanner Pearson has been left out of the Tricolore’s last two games. And with two wins under his belt, we’re not likely to see him back anytime soon.

Could this be his last game with the Tricolore? It’s possible, but according to Renaud Lavoie, it could be more than that.

The TVA Sports journalist wonders if Pearson’s NHL career could be over.

“He doesn’t really have a future with the Canadiens, and I can’t wait to see what happens to the rest of him in the National League” – Renaud Lavoie

It’s obvious that Pearson can no longer fully keep up with the high pace imposed by NHL players, but he does have his moments in games.

It’s the production that hasn’t been there for him this year. He has 12 points in 49 games played, including just five goals.

Remember that his three-year contract expires after the current campaign, and that it would be very surprising to see him back in Montreal next year. But at almost minimum wage, it would be surprising if a team didn’t make him an offer.

His long injury last year really slowed him down. It’s a shame, because during the 2021-2022 season in Vancouver, he was very effective in his role. He compiled 34 points in 69 games. He was constantly in the danger zones and had his uses in the playoffs.

He’ll have a full off-season to try to regain his form and, who knows, break into a line-up elsewhere in the NHL.

Overtime

– A case far from settled

– A good year for Slafkovsky.

– Heavy defeat for Laval.

Top-2: Senators score five goals in first period

0
0

Last night, there were only two games in the NHL.

The Senators played the Sabres and Boston visited Tampa Bay.

Here are the results and highlights:

1. Five Sens goals in the first period

The Senators may no longer be fighting for the playoffs, but that doesn’t stop them from having good games here and there.

Yesterday, they made short work of the Sabres, 6-2.

Ottawa scored five of their six goals in the first period. Drake Batherson tripled the lead with this beautiful goal:

Then, at the very end of the period, the team took a five-goal lead.

A match to forget in Buffalo.

Bowen Byram even took out his frustration on an opposing player.

With this victory, Ottawa once again overtook Montreal in the overall standings.

2. One point in eight consecutive games for the Lightning

In the other game involving two Atlantic teams, the Bruins faced the Lightning in Tampa Bay.

In the end, it was the home side who came out on top, 3-1.

Tampa may not have the Preds’ streak, but the team still has a point in eight consecutive games.

Tough game for the Bruins, who were dominated in every aspect.

Even toughness.

It also doesn’t help when Charlie Coyle has an empty net and decides to pass the puck.

What a blunder!

Overtime

– A 43rd for Danton Heinen.

– Strong game for Senators players.

Over the past few games, the Canadiens’ goalies have been on fire.

0
0

This morning, the Canadiens wake up in Quebec for the first time in a while. They’ve just returned from a trip out West that wasn’t easy on many levels.

It won’t be easy to get back on track quickly. That’s often the case when you return from a long trip out West.

Will the crowd’s support for Martin St-Louis, who recently returned to the team, serve to nourish the Canadiens’ players? Perhaps it will.

But one thing is becoming increasingly clear: it’s going to take goalies who get the job done. The crowd, big as it is, can’t make the saves for the goalies…

At the start of the season, when Jake Allen was good (he won a Molson Cup, remember) and Samuel Montembeault was winning more regularly, the Habs found ways to win games.

And if the team wants to win games soon (because yes, the players don’t care about the draft), Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau will have to play up to their talent.

The good news? The end of the trip showed that the guys are on a roll.

Looking at the very short term, Primeau gave up just one goal to the Kraken on Sunday and Monty (who had yet to win in March) did the same in Denver on Tuesday. They went in search of victory for their team after a tougher start to the trip in Vancouver and Alberta.

You can say that Primeau was helped by an offside call and David Savard playing goalie, that Montembeault was helped by a late four-minute Avalanche penalty or that the team played well… but the reality is that the guys got the job done.

And in a development league, that’s important.

For the first time this campaign, the Habs gave up one goal or less in two straight games. That’s no mean feat when you consider that one of those games was against Colorado and the other was without Martin St-Louis.

Of course, it’s only two games. That said, it’s a positive to build on for the future.

With Jake Allen sacrificing himself to make room for his two young colleagues, it’s clear that the guys in place in Montreal know they have the confidence of their team.

Note that the Canadiens will train at 10:30 this morning. We should learn the identity of the goalie who will face the Flyers tonight in their first home game in a while.

And we’ll see if the goalie chosen has a big one in him.

Overtime

– Enjoy.

– To set the table for the new baseball season.

– Martin St-Louis’ commitment is notable. [JdeM]

– To be continued.

– Sad news yesterday.

David Reinbacher: “We won’t see him for long with the Rocket”.

Last night, the Rocket were in action in Utica. Like all their games between now and the end of the season, we’re talking about a duel that’s important for what happens next: the playoff race.

David Reinbacher was in uniform. He was playing his fourth game in Laval.

What’s interesting is that he’s not intimidated by the workload. He arrives on a small ice in a playoff race… but despite everything, he manages to pull his weight.

Unfortunately for the Rocket, they were unable to come away with the win.

Worse still? Some division rivals took advantage of the evening to win games. Cleveland may have lost, but Utica, Rochester and Toronto all won their games of the evening.

The Rocket still has a chance of making the playoffs (fifth place in this division puts them in the playoff picture), but it won’t be easy.

And more and more, we’re realizing that no, the Rocket isn’t necessarily going to be careful with Reinbacher, who’s capable of taking some and is proving that he’s the best defenseman of his age.

Yes, he’s been impressive since his arrival in Quebec.

Tobie Paquette-Bisson, an important veteran in Laval who plays with Reinbacher, believes that the Austrian won’t be in Laval for long, and that he’ll soon be making the jump to the Montreal Canadiens.

It’s important to remember that Kent Hughes has closed the door on a recall to Montreal this year for Reinbacher, who is clearly in Laval to stay until the end of the season.

But comments like these are interesting to hear from a guy who sees Reinbacher every day.

In bursts

– Reinbacher has to make the most of every moment.

– Names to keep an eye on.

– Well done.

– The QMJHL is happy.

– Yes.

Training: Christian Dvorak wears a regular jersey

0

The Montreal Canadiens are back in town. The next games will take place at the Bell Centre, starting tonight when the Philadelphia Flyers come to town.

Getting ready? A 10:30 a.m. workout was on the menu.

The first thing we noticed was that Christian Dvorak was present. It’s worth mentioning that the centerfielder was wearing a regular jersey authorizing him to receive contact.

We know the forward wants to return to action this season. The Habs have announced that the American will miss the rest of the campaign, but obviously there’s a good chance he’ll be back.

If he does come back, it won’t be to the delight of colleague Maxime Truman.

Note that this is not the first time the center has trained. That said, in the past, we used to see Dvorak wearing a jersey forbidding him to receive contact.

We’ll see if he returns in the coming weeks.

Details to follow…

Cayden Primeau to face Flyers

0

As you know, the Habs will face the Flyers tonight at the Bell Centre.

When Martin St-Louis was asked about the identity of his starting goaltender, he announced that young Cayden Primeau will be in net for tonight’s game.

This is the only change for the game.

As I mentioned this morning, both goalies are on fire this week. There may have been no bad choice for Martin St-Louis, and Primeau will face his childhood club.

This obviously means that Samuel Montembeault, who played the last game in Denver, will face the Hurricanes on Saturday night.

Primeau is entitled to home games and no longer has to wait weeks to play. He’s really benefited from the end of the threesome and the Jake Allen deal.

Now it’s up to him to come out strong.

Stanley25: Cole Caufield and his $100,000 f*ck money

0
0

That’s the end of it!

No, unfortunately I’m not talking about wokism. Richard Martineau will have to be patient a little longer

I’m referring to the first season of the Stanley25 sports podcast, which I co-host alongside my good – and old – friend Jean Trudel. #10Episodes

We’ve just put our 9th episode online, an episode we decided to do with just the two of us, without guest(s), because we had so much stock to talk about this week.

To use a JT expression, we’ve dropped in a few baby scoops.

Among other things, Jean told us that Arber Xhekaj had received a fee of around $25,000 to name a La Chambre burger after Sheriff. Of course, there are a few details that can make this amount fluctuate, but it’s pretty close.

For his part, Cole Caufield costs around $100,000 for a day’s shooting and about the same sponsorship. That’s four times more than Xhekaj – which is to be expected, given Caufield’s status vs. Xhekaj’s – and it’s (much) more than the average annual salary in Quebec.

It’s only a short step to thinking that’s what McDo must have paid to make a special Cole Caufield burger, although Jean didn’t go so far as to link his $100,000 to the #1 fast-food company on the planet.

@9millions_ #Stanley25 How much does it cost to have Cole Caufield or Arber Xhekaj in a commercial? #LaChambre#McDo Excerpt from the Stanley25 podcast (episode 9). #MaxTruman #JeanTrudel ♬ original sound – 9millions

And according to JT’s confidences, agents often recommend that their players spend this money on things that make them happy. #F*ckMoney

As for me, I talked about Quebecor’s purchase of part of Attraction Médias, the top-rated show on BPM Sports, the (still) recent cuts to RDS, the resale of tickets to women’s hockey games, the movie Happy Gilmore 2 and the time I got into a solid fight with Jean-Charles Lajoie.

JT talked about Cole Caufield’s emotions, sports betting, Arber Xhekaj’s quiet life and the link between PKP ‘s Quebec nationalist side and the main sponsors of his Canadian football team, the Montreal Alouettes.

And of course, we revisited the Damphousse-Bélanger pairing, as well as Mason St-Louis’ injury. Spoiler alert: a doctor told us that the signs are very positive for the youngster…

Seriously, don’t sleep on the podcast content!

To think there’s only one episode left after this week’s…

We’re cooking up something cool for our 10th and final week of Season 1.

Breaking news

– CF Montréal: Opoku is the only player not training with the regulars today. Unfortunately, he’s not about to return to action

– Aaron Ekblad will be back in action.

– Auston Matthews may have to sit out tonight.

Controversial goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov on his way to Philadelphia

0
0

Do you remember the Ivan Fedotov saga? Not completely? I got you.

The Russian goalie, who belongs to the Flyers, wanted to avoid military service in Russia. He was held against his will when he was caught and didn’t play hockey for a while.

Because the goaltender had signed a one-year NHL contract before his “break” year (22-23), he thought he was free as a bird. He therefore opted to sign in the KHL for two years, from 2023 to 2025.

The Flyers, on the other hand, said that his entry-level contract was deferred and therefore valid for the 2023-2024 season.

The IIHF was forced to look into the matter and ruled that the man who wanted to play in the KHL did indeed have an NHL contract. His contract in Philly was therefore valid.

This put the KHL on notice, and even though Fedotov had been suspended for the start of the KHL season (because yes, he did play in Russia), they decided to ignore it.

You can follow the saga here, if you like.

So, there’s a sequel to all that. According to reports, CSKA have terminated his contract, which was valid (is valid the right word for an illegal contract in the first place?) for one more season.

And according to Elliotte Friedman, the player is potentially on his way to Philly.

According to the source, the deal has been in the works for a few weeks. There are talks that the goalkeeper could land in North America very soon.

According to Kevin Weekes, the NHL will have to lift the player’s suspension to make him eligible, but it could happen.

Recall that the Flyers lost Carter Hart, who is associated with the Team Canada scandal and has been linked to the KHL. Obviously, the plan is to replace him with another goalie who could be considered controversial.

Let’s not forget that Fedotov isn’t the Flyers’ best prospect in Russia: Matvei Michkov is.

In gusto

– Speaking of the Flyers.

– Speaking of Russia.

– The Montreal club captain celebrates her birthday.

– Obviously.

– We won’t be seeing him again.

Even Cole Hutson doesn’t expect to play with Lane next year

0
0

Everyone can’t wait to see Lane Hutson in Montreal.

That’s why many held their breath when they readone of our colleague Charles-Alexis Brisebois’ recent texts, in which we read that Dany Dubé is afraid the defenseman won’t sign with the Habs.

Because, of course, this news would be hard to digest, given that the young man has been spoken of so highly for almost two years now, in Montreal and throughout the NHL…

But now, with the publication of a single tweet, Nicolas Cloutier (TVA Sports) has calmed the storm.

In the tweet in question, Cloutier states that Cole Hutson doesn’t expect to play with his big brother Lane next year in Boston.

At least, that’s what Cole told him recently… And it’s a good clue as to what’s to come.

It’s worth noting that Cole Hutson is one of the top prospects for the upcoming NHL draft, but he’s committed to playing at BU for the next few years.

He’s basically following in his big brother’s footsteps.

That said, his take on things gives good clues because Cole is Lane’s brother and because he must be somewhat aware of what’s going on in the habs prospect’s life.

Lane has surely shared his intentions with his family and the idea of playing with Cole next year must be appealing, because he says he’s ready to return to the NCAA next year

But he has to make a decision that’s going to benefit him at the end of the day, and it’s a little hard to believe that Lane still has a lot to learn in the NCAA because he’s been dominating the college circuit for the past two years.

There’s nothing official yet, because Lane Hutson hasn’t finished his season in Boston anyway. That said, Nicolas Cloutier’s tweet gives all fans something to look forward to.

In a row

– Good.

– Ah?

– It’s normal.

– He’s good.

– Leon Draisaitl, a proud Blue Jays fan?
